The Terabee IND-TOF-1 Time-of-Flight distance sensor is a fast an accurate way of monitoring distance in the 0.5-12.5m range.

It has a robust IP65 enclosure and is compact and light. The sensor communicates through RS485 (note that a separate cable is required), and sends updated distance information multiple times per second.
